Deacons

Deacons are Servants.

They are called by God to serve within the Church. They are appointed by the Vintage21 Elders (Church leaders) on an ongoing basis as the continuing needs of the church arise, enabling the Elders to focus on Prayer, Spiritual Discipline, and the ministry of the Word, thus aiding the advancement of the Gospel.

At Vintage21, we have Lead Deacons and Deacons. The Lead Deacons own, develop and oversee ministries put in place by the Elders, while empowering, equipping and encouraging those (other deacons and volunteers) under their leadership. The Deacons and Volunteers then become the hands of the body, laboring to do the work of ministry, thus fulfilling their call to be the Body (1 Corinthians 12:27).

Before appointed, Deacons must meet the Qualifications as outlined in scripture: 1 Timothy 3:8:

"Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus."
