International Generosity

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to release from darkness for the prisoners.

Isaiah 61:1

Establishing gospel-centered churches and communities in Uganda by Resourcing, Responding, and Replicating.

Resourcing church planters with the tools necessary to preach good news to the poor. (Is. 61:1)

Those who start churches in the United States have unlimited resources at their fingertips. To dive into the word and learn about theology with the help of other believers is something we don’t think twice about. Resourcing doesn’t simply mean providing monetary support, while this is a piece of the puzzle, but it also means training up leaders in the country so they are ready and able to share the gospel with those who don’t know and who have never heard.

Responding to the unique social needs of the country to restore the places long devastated. (Is. 61:4)

Vintage 21 has responded by sending members of our church body to Uganda to live in and love on that community in Christ. As a church body we can respond in a few ways. First, we have the opportunity to use our finances to support these two as they take the love of Christ to Kampala, Uganda. Second, we can use our finances to sponsor the children in the slums of Kampala, Uganda, meeting physical needs of the area. Finally, we should be in continual prayer for the life of these people, that the Lord would restore them and bring them back to Him.

Replicating the vision to display the Lord’s splendor in all the earth by planting churches and providing for those in need. (Is. 61:3)

While we are on mission in Kampala, Uganda, and the Lord has called us there, this should not be the final resting point. We want the work being done in Kampala to be able to be adapted to fit particular social needs in various areas of the world. We want to be able to train church planters in this method so that, with slight modifications, this vision and the action that goes along with it can be replicated multiple times for the Glory of the Lord.

Our Response

The Plant: Uganda Vision is to establish gospel-centered churches and communities in the heart of Kampala by resourcing church planters and responding to a unique social need. Our vision is two-fold; one aspect is to support the Morris family as they plant, providing discipleship, training, coaching, and other resources. The second aspect is to establish a sponsorship program that meets the needs within the community, while laboring to make it about Jesus and connected to the church. The average adult salary is $1-$2 a day, while the average cost of school is about $25 a month, not including the additional cost of uniforms and school supplies. With the ability to afford school comes a hot meal each day, a uniform and shoes to wear, a safe environment, and a chance to hope and look ahead past tomorrow’s basic needs. The sponsorship becomes the vehicle to support the church planter financially and with resources as well as a way to love the community.

Together we can help “restore the places long devastated” (Isaiah 61:4); and though we are starting in the Wabigalo Slum, we are praying this is just the beginning of God’s work of restoration and redemption through the missional focus of Vintage 21 Church.
