A Light in the Alley 1 Corinthians 2:6-16
Listen to Audio

In 1 Corinthians 2, we find Paul speaking to the temptation faced by the church, past and present, to rely on our own giftedness instead of the Holy Spirit. Having established the true message of the church- Jesus Christ and Him crucified- Paul exhorts us to not only preach Jesus alone, but in doing so to rely on Jesus alone.

Romans 1:20
For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. A Spiritual Person:

  1. Hears the Word of God

  2. Is given the Spirit of God

  3. Has the mind of Christ

Acts 28:31 (Paul went on) proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

Luke 8:1 Soon afterward Jesus went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God.

Proclaim – Kerusso: to be a herald, a public crier of divine truth

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic –on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God." - C.S. Lewis

Questions for Reflection

  1. Jesus preached your need for Himself. This is an outrageous claim unless Jesus is God. If you are a doubter or seeker, how will you respond to this claim? If you are a follower, are you challenging the Wisdom of God by demanding more than Jesus?

  2. If you’re a follower, the Holy Spirit lives in your soul and tells you truth about the world, about you and about God. Are you listening? Will you give in?

  3. You have “the mind of Christ,” are you using it?
