A Light in the Alley 1 Corinthians 4:1-14
Listen to Audio

Following Jesus means studying His life and obeying His commands. Paul knew this concept well; the letters in the New Testament to the churches he planted all attempt to guide them to Christ. In one way all churches struggle with moving away from Christ. Whether well-intentioned or not, our pride as sinful humans gets in the way of our worship of Jesus. Paul challenges the Corinthian church boldly in chapter 4, by posing this question: Who is your king? Listen as Tyler Jones brings Paul's relevant question to Vintage21 Church in this day and time.

The Three Effects of Sin

  • It dishonors and disrespects God

  • It crushes those around us

  • It leaves our lives powerless

1 Corinthians 4:12-13

"and we labor, working with our own hands. when reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we entreat. we have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things."

Philippians 1:29-30

"For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for His sake…"

Revelation 3:17

"For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked."

Questions for Reflection

  1. Sin really is a big deal--it disrespects God, it crushes others and it leaves you powerless. Are you dealing honestly with your sin?
  2. There can be only 1 king. Who are you following?
  3. Pride blinds us. Spend time asking God to reveal your pride. How will you repent?
  4. Are you judging yourself? Are you judging others? When will you learn to see the world through Jesus? What will it take to lose your pride?
