In his letter to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul calls them out repeatedly. In this week's passage, chapter 10:17-34, we find Paul's frustration at a height. The Corinthians have taken the beautiful agape meal of communion and turned it into self-worship. As they dishonor the death and resurrection of Christ, it blows Paul's mind- they are actively turning their backs on the glue that holds the church, that IS the church. Jesus Christ is the unifying factor. We too, are guilty of this, as we halfheartedly worship and celebrate communion. Join us as Pastor Tyler Jones preaches on the death self-worship leads to.
1) The Lord’s Supper is a memorial, a reenactment of an actual sacrifice. The bread represents Jesus’ life—our faith is not based on teachings but the actual events and accomplishments of Jesus. Take the bread in remembrance of Jesus. The blood represents the death of Jesus. At birth we are already dead, it is just a matter of time till the heart stops. The blood is offered as a trade: His death so you can have life. Take the blood in remembrance of Jesus.
2) You must not take communion if you are divided against your brother or sister. Have you belittled them? Have you gossiped about someone? Have you exploded in anger on someone and need to reconcile? Do that now, seek our your brother and find Grace.
