Vision Vision - Week 2
Listen to Audio

How does the church learn to be the church? We believe one way to do this is by looking at the earliest followers of Christ. Our Vision Series, which take place several times a year, are based in Acts. These men and women started the church from scratch, and lived out the teachings of Jesus. We will continually revisit this book as we attempt to build the local church.

Quote from Darrin Patrick

“Jesus of Nazareth came on a mission. He was not looking for the well, the found, or the righteous. His mission was not about starting a ministry that would produce programs to be consumed by nice, attractive, middle-class, white, suburban, couples with 2.5 kids. It wasn’t a country club with nice, painted, iron gates that Jesus inaugurated. It was a church that Jesus founded with its calling to storm the gates of hell. The church he founded was not a place for people to get fed and fat, but a place to be equipped and sent. Church is not a building or destination, but a people who are on mission: to join the Savior in seeking and saving those who are lost."

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Reflection Questions

  1. What issues with the Church of today make it easily deniable? What problems do your friends, family, co-workers have with the Church and Christians in general? How can you help make the church undeniable?
  2. If you are a God doubter or God seeker, what issues do you have with the Church? If you do not follow Christ, is it because of people? Take time to consider what it is that keeps you from following God. Talk to God about these things.
  3. Vintage21 is a missional church: we are on mission with God. What ways are you called to be missional? How is God changing you to join in His mission to the world?
