Proverbs Proverbs - Money Part 2
Listen to Audio

Continuing our study of Proverbs, Tyler Jones speaks on the issue of Stewardship, specifically how we spend, save and invest.

Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

"Make as much as you can so you can give as much as you can." -Jonathan Edwards

Proverbs 13:22

A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children.

John 5:17

Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working."

Genesis 2:15

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it

Genesis 3:17

Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

Proverbs 12:11

He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks.

Luke 14:28-30

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'

Develop a Plan:

  1. PDF on finances and budgeting
  2. www.crown.org
  3. Financial Counselor for an all V21 session

Proverbs 21:5

The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

Proverbs 22:7

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

Reflection:

  1. What would you do with a bank that was embezzling your money? What would you do with a pocket that always allows your wallet to fall out? Is your life leaking resources? What will you do about it?
  2. How do you deal with John Wesley’s comment, “Make as much as you can so you can give as much as you can.” Have you rejected resources for unbiblical reasons? Have you hoarded wealth, to any degree, and therefore lived a life that is not Christ-like? How will you become a person of resources who worships God with all that you are/have?
  3. When will you make a budget? When will you learn to stick to it? Will you get help from a financial counselor? How will you honor God by becoming a good steward of your resources? Take a few honest moments in this silence and allow God to convict you of your leaking life.
